It's been so warm around here, I almost don't have the winter blues. Almost. It's nice out but everything is still brown. So I decided to make myself a little flower to cheer myself up. Here is the finished product.
Isn't the flower cute! I was trying to take a picture of myself wearing it, which is hard to do. So if the smile looks halfhearted it's not, it's just that there are a million things going on.
This flower took me exactly 5 min. to make. It is insanely easy. Plus you just need scraps.
I started out with a piece of felt cut in a circle in the size I wanted. Notice it's not a perfect circle, it doesn't matter. Yah! Then from the outside in I started stapling scraps of material around the edges. The outside in part is crucial. If you go from the center out you have to fiddle with the material too much. So outside in. You can attach this anyway you want. I chose staples because it seemed easier, but you can hot glue, hand stitch, machine stitch. Whatever you feel most comfortable with.
Okay now all the strips are in place. Mostly the staples are hidden. I'm not worried about the center ones because my flower will hide those, the outside ones I removed the staple and hot glued them in place.
Don't worry that staple is gone in the next step. I glued a pink rosette in the center. You can also use a vintage button. Make a flower out of rick rack. The possibilities are endless.
After this phase I cut out another circle of felt and glued it to the back. I didn't want any staples to snag my outfits and attached a pin.

That is so cute and fun! I love that it uses up scraps, too! :)
